Things to do in VicksburgKnown the world over for its rich history and celebrated Civil War Battlefield, the City of Vicksburg offers numerous free activities for event attendees. Vicksburg National Military Park - A treasure that must be experienced, this federally maintained landmark can be taken in via a 16-mile, self-guided driving tour. Offering a stirring glimpse back at this nation's tumultuous past, the tour begins at the Visitors Center, where life-sized exhibits and artifacts from the Siege of Vicksburg are on display. An 18 minute film which recounts the campaign is shown on the hour and half-hour. You may also stop in at the Cairo Museum, which features its name sake, an iron clad ship recovered from the depths of the mighty Mississippi. Museums - A City steeped in tradition, Vicksburg boasts a wealth of interesting museums, including The Old Court House Museum-Eva W. Davis Memorial, the Southern Cultural Heritage Complex, the Biedenharn Museum of Coca-Cola® Memorabilia, Yesterday's Children Antique Doll and Toy Museum, the Gray & Blue Naval Museum, The Jacqueline House African American Museum and the Great Animal Adventures Children's Museum. Historic Homes - Perhaps Vicksburg's most coveted attractions are its many beautiful, historic homes and churches. A tour of these gracious structures is truly like stepping back in time.
